Stop Building a Business That Doesn’t Build Toward Anything

I'm obsessed with getting lost in the desert of Southern Utah, in my 4WD 1992 Toyota 4 Runner, alone.

In my 20s, I’d take whatever unmarked dirt road pulled me. I’d help stranded tourists, stay for days without seeing another soul, and navigate with a collection of state detailed map books, and shoe box of paper topo maps on the passenger seat. (Most of the time, I knew where I was. 😉)

I spent four months on a road trip never knowing the next day’s destination, picking up random gigs, and living entirely on novelty.

I learned that for my mental health, reading, writing, hiking, and sitting in creeks at the hot part of the day is my ideal lifestyle. (I have yet to make that my full time reality.)

It was beautiful time in my life. It built a deep, unshakeable self-trust.

But it didn’t solve any of the deep, ongoing problems in my life.

It gave me a scenic break from them.

That’s what happens when you don’t have a vision.

You can have a great vehicle (skills), ample fuel (effort), and even a box of maps (random tactics). But if you don’t have a destination, you’re just on a very expensive, exhausting, and ultimately directionless road trip.

If you're a business owner and you don't have a clear vision, you're tanking your future. I can almost guarantee you:

  • work too much.

  • struggle to delegate

  • stress about making payroll, or longevity in your business

  • don't feel like a confident, clear leader

Your business builds, but it doesn't build intentionally towards a life that actually works for you.

Knowing what you want your life to look like and how your business fits into your vision is the most reliable way to make it happen. Knowing what you want to create makes it possible.

Writing a vision that feels embodied, exciting, and true is a transformational event. It can change you. It pulls you out of daily reactivity. It leverages neuroscience and spell casting to help you feel like this future is familiar and safe. Your business goes from being a chaotic adventure in problem solving into a capable vehicle to get the life you want.

When you know exactly where you’re aiming, you can work backwards. You can build clear goals, realistic deadlines, and meaningful KPIs. You can finally say "no" to the wrong roads without guilt, stress, or rumination. No wondering how you'll get there. A clear map that's easy to read that helps you adjust when you get off course.

If you see the value of this, but the thought of doing it alone makes you want to crawl out of your skin, I can help.
